This dictionary has been compiled to serve three purposes. First, it introduces non-Yoruba speakers with a fair degree of understanding of the English language to the Yoruba language. Secondly, it makes it possible for authors to write books in the Yoruba language for students in primary, secondary, and even tertiary institutions that address their needs in this computer age. Thirdly, Yoruba students, with a limited understanding of the English language will find it useful in their studies of English. With the introduction of this dictionary, the Yoruba language as a tool has been expanded beyond the scope of its current usage as a language of religion, literature, and art. It now has the capability to handle complex scientific and mathematical terms. First, a successful attempt has been made to adapt the Yoruba numeral system to a decimal base in place of the duodecimal one. This makes it feasible to call numbers as written.
