The advanced ESL students in my classes usually write quite well. They have interesting things to say about topics that we have discussed. They tell about interesting experiences they have had. They often describe things in lively, colorful ways. This is to a great extent what writing is all about: having something to say. In addition, however, it is important to write correctly. In recent years there has been a shift away from grammar. The emphasis in teaching writing has been placed on the writing process. While the importance of teaching the writing process should by no means be diminished, the importance of writing correctly cannot be ignored. It is, therefore, the goal of this text to help students write correctly—to move from process to form.
