    International English describes and compares, at the levels of phonetics, phonology, grammar and vocabulary, the main varieties of Standard English spoken and written today. It covers the distinctive features of English in England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Wales, the USA, Canada, Ireland, the West Indies, West Africa and India. Some acquaintance with basic linguistic terms is assumed, but concepts are explained and exemplified in the text and a glossary is included for easy reference. There is also a complementary recording, available on cassette, which presents the vowel system of each variety, together with a reading by a native speaker.
