My reasons for writing this book rest on the premise that improvement of a student’s ability to write clearly, effectively and creatively will only come through deliberate teaching. It cannot happen by accident or osmosis simply by reading a lot, talking freely and writing creatively. The more control a student has over the deliberate structuring of his or her expression, the more effective the writing is going to be. This course intends to bridge the gap between grammar, expression and writing. Its aim is to prepare the student for a lifetime of effective communication. The sections on ways to improve creative and expository writing skills should be enjoyable and rewarding. Immediate results should be expected.
