The First Certificate in English (FCE) is an internationally recognised qualifi cation at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It is divided into 5 papers testing different areas of language competence. These are: Paper 1 Reading Paper 2 Writing Paper 3 Use of English Paper 4 Listening Paper 5 Speaking PAPER 1: READING You have 1 hour to complete this part of the exam. The Reading paper contains three parts with a range of texts and comprehension tasks. The texts may be a solid piece of writing or two or more shorter related pieces. Generally there are 550–700 words per text. The task types are multiple choice, gapped text and multiple matching. Answers are written on a separate answer sheet.
