The Spanish alphabet has twenty-eight letters. Note that ch, 11, and ñ are considered to be separate single letters and are so treated in the alphabetization of Spanish words. While rr is considered to be a distinct sign for a particular sound, it is not included in the alphabet and except in syllabification (notably for the division of words at the end of a line) is not treated as a separate letter, perhaps because words never begin with it.
