A sentence consists of a subject and a predicate that communicate a complete thought. The part of a sentence that tells who or what the sentence is about is called the simple subject. The simple predicate (or simple verb) tells what the subject does or is. Both parts of a sentence can have other words added to give more information about the simple subject and the simple predicate.
